Seed Innovations
Our commitment to research and plant breeding has led to the commercialization of many varieties and new crop types, which provide the opportunity for farm customers to expand and diversify.
In Canada, Viterra’s seed innovations include:
Seed Variety Testing
Each year our seed varieties are rigorously tested along with top industry varieties at our Viterra Agronomic System Trials (VAST) and Viterra Performance Check locations across Western Canada. Find out more about our seed variety testing programs.
Forage Testing
Farmers can seed with confidence knowing they have the best quality forage seed and that their forage seed has been thoroughly tested. Viterra has one of the most extensive private forage testing programs in Western Canada.
We test varieties for:
-
Winter survival
-
Yield and re-growth potential
-
Forage quality
-
Salt and traffic tolerance
-
Other factors that are important to farmers
This extensive testing enables Viterra to back up our forage seed products with the Viterra Performance Promise, providing farm customers with the peace of mind of knowing that Viterra shares the risk with them.
Our breeding programs are a significant part of our commitment to providing quality ingredients that meet the nutritional needs of people around the world.
